Summary

494 samples of dairy products, 509 of raw meat and meat products, 183 of fish and fish products, 180 of vegetables have been investigated. In dairy samples, 18% with genus Listeria, including 8% L. monocytogenes were found. In raw meat and meat products, these figures are 63% and 15%; in fish, the figures are 24 and 7.6%, and for vegetables, only genus Listeria (but no L. monocytogenes) were found. Smoked fish samples appeared to be the most contamined with L. monocytogenes (38%), followed by sausages (28%) and mozzarella (16%).
