Overview and outlook for world aquaculture.
Author(s) : HJUL P.
Summary
Survey of present fish and shellfish production using aquaculture. Asia's role is predominant, since it produces 85% of total production. Asia apart, successful ventures involving salmon, rainbow trout, marine catfish, sea bream and certain shellfish have been implemented elsewhere. Progress in terms of culture technology, nutrition, and water treatment is likely to be achieved. In the distant future, it is possible that aquaculture will have expanded greatly and the conventional fishing will have declined considerably.
