The paper mainly deals with the heating performance of heat pump water heaters using carbon dioxide and R22 as the refrigerant, respectively. A simulation model is proposed for each component and for the whole system. Under the condition of identical system contour size, the COP value, heating capacity and compressor discharge temperature of the two units are analysed and compared.
