Performance of Care-50 as an R22 replacement in a domestic HPAC system.

Author(s) : FIRTH A., CARRINGTON G.

Summary

The performance of a split-system domestic heat pump was measured with the two refrigerants R22 and Care-50, a proprietary hydrocarbon blend. The heat pump was an unmodified commercially available system. The tests used ISO-13253 rating conditions, including temperatures representative for use in New Zealand. With Care-50 in the cooling mode, the capacity was slightly reduced but the COP was significantly increased. In the heating mode, the capacity was reduced and the COP values were similar. In all cases, compressor temperatures and high-side pressures were significantly reduced.
