Summary

The availability of a power plant is a critical indicator for assessing the overall performance of the plant and its service to customers. The report is a collection of papers describing some of the activities of the WEC Committee on the Performance of Generating Plants. It demonstrates a range of approaches used to assess the availability of coal and gas fired thermal units, nuclear reactors and renewable energy plants, and presents selected availability statistics from around the world. The report includes a special section containing over 25 case studies from utilities all over the world outlining various benchmarking approaches using advanced methodologies. A separate section contains detailed descriptions of the leading power plant statistics databases.
