Performance testing of R22 and R502 alternatives based on R32-R125-R134a.

Summary

Performance of these refrigerants has been evaluated by theoretical studies, calorimetry and system trialling, extensive work has also been carried out in field trialling and retrofit. The paper covers the topics of blend design; total environmental warming impact of HFC alternatives; theoretical and practical performance data, and practical experience of retrofitting systems to the alternatives. The issues of temperature glide and servicing of zeotropic refrigerants are discussed. Studies on system leakage are used to illustrate that these refrigerants can be used and serviced with minimal alterations to existing practice.
