Summary

Despite considerable progress in fruit production practices, several factors related to fruit physiology and/or lack of appropriate post harvest techniques still preclude many mango producing countries from participating in the growing world export market due to inadequate fruit quality standards. The objectives of this paper are to review the current handling, storage and treatment techniques for mangoes, including strategies for controlling post harvest diseases and physiological disorders. The physical and biochemical indices of fruit maturity, ripening and senescence are also examined.
