Summary

THE AUTHORS PREPARED THIN FILMS OF YTTRIUM, BARIUM AND COPPER OXIDE SUPERCONDUCTING AT HIGH CRITICAL TEMPERATURES ON SILICON SUBSTRATES BY USING METAL NITRIDES AS THE TRANSITION LAYER. THE SILICON SUBSTRATE IS A 50 MM DIAMETER, 300 MICROMETER THICK DISC. THE METAL NITRIDE IS SPRAYED BY RADIO-FREQUENCY TO A THICKNESS OF ABOUT 0.1 MICROMETER. THE SUPERCONDUCTING LAYER IS EVAPORATED BY USING A PULSED LASER BEAM ON A TARGET OF THE OXIDE. AFTER SHORT-TERM HIGH TEMPERATURE ANNEALING IN AN OXYGEN ATMOSPHERE, THE LAYERS OBTAINED HAVE A RESISTIVE TRANSITION COMMENCING AT 100 K AND COMPLETELY ZERO RESISTANCE BELOW 55 K.
