PRESENT STATE OF CONVERSION OF SPECIFIC CFCS INTO ALTERNATIVE REFRIGERANTS IN JAPAN.
Type of article: Article, Review
Summary
R134A IS ALREADY BEING USED IN MANY REFRIGERATION UNITS IN JAPAN AND ONE PRODUCTION PLANT FOR R134A IS NOW WORKING. FOUR OTHER PLANTS ARE IN CONSTRUCTION OR PLANNED. WHEN COMPLETE, PRODUCTION CAPACITY IS EXPECTED TO EXCEED DEMAND. ONE MANUFACTURER IS NOW PRODUCING CENTRIFUGAL WATER CHILLERS SUITABLE FOR R123. OTHERS ARE AWAITING FURTHER TOXICITY TESTS AS INITIAL RESULTS SHOW R123 CAN PRODUCE BENIGN TUMOURS IN RATS. MANY ELECTRONICS COMPANIES ARE CHANGING WASHING PROCESSES TO WATER-BASED OR ALCOHOL AGENTS FOR CLEANING PURPOSES, BUT FOR INSULATION FOAMING IN REFRIGERATORS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR R11 HAS YET BEEN FOUND.
