FASTER CHLOROFLUOROCARBON PROHIBITION LOOMS IN GLOBAL TREATIES, LEGISLATION.

Type of article: Article, Review

Summary

THE ARTICLE REITERATES THE PRESENT PROTOCOL RESTRICTIONS ON THE PRODUCTION AND USE OF CFCS AND INDICATES TRENDS WHICH MAY OVERTAKE THE AGREEMENTS. THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES HOWEVER ARE LOATH TO JOIN THE PROTOCOL UNLESS HELP IS GIVEN IN CONVERSION AND THE SEARCH FOR ALTERNATIVES. SO FAR NO TRULY SUITABLE ALTERNATIVE REFRIGERANTS HAVE APPEARED. EVEN HFC-134A, THE FAVOURED REPLACEMENT FOR CFC-12, IS SAID TO BE LESS STABLE AND LIABLE TO CAUSE CORROSION IN EXISTING SYSTEMS. D.W.H.
