DESCRIPTION OF THE COMBINED UNITS PROVIDING HEATING AND COOLING IN A CHOCOLATE FACTORY. THE REQUIREMENTS FOR COLD (WATER COOLING, IN A CLOSED CIRCUIT, OF THE CYLINDERS USED FOR MILLING THE SUGAR-COCOA-MILK-BUTTER MIXTURE) AND THE REQUIREMENTS FOR HEAT (STORAGE AND PUMPING OF PASTE, CLEANING, REWARMING OF THE REFINING MACHINES, OF THE MELTING MACHINES, ETC) USING 2 HOT WATER CIRCUITS AT 323 AND 353 K (50 AND 80 DEG C) ARE ANALYZED. A HEAT PUMP (USING R22) MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS FOR COLD AT 288 K (15 DEG C) AND THE REQUIREMENTS FOR HEAT OF THE CIRCUIT AT 323 K, WHEREAS A SECOND HEAT PUMP (USING R142B), WHOSE CONDENSER IS FITTED IN SERIES WITH THAT OF THE FIRST PUMP, SATISFIES THE REQUIREMENTS FOR HEAT IN THE CIRCUIT AT 353 K. A DIAGRAM SHOWING THE REQUIREMENTS, THE SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM OF THE INSTALLATION AND THE OPERATIONAL SAVINGS DUE TO THE USE OF HEAT PUMPS ARE GIVEN. J.R.
