Propane-butane: an environmentally friendly refrigerant.

Summary

Several household refrigerators charged with propane-butane mixture were investigated for 30 months. The initial mixture composition was close to 50-50. Electricity consumption and working parameters were found to be comparable to refrigerators charged with R12. The authors conclude that the mixture can be used both as a substitute and as a drop-in refrigerant to replace R12. It is compatible with commonly used R12 lubricants and can be put in existing refrigerators without repeated cleaning.
