Use of propane and butane as working fluids in home refrigerators.

Author(s) : LA ROCCA V., MORALE M.

Summary

The paper reports results of a lot of tests performed at Dipartimento di Energetica ed Applicazioni di Fisica, Università degli Studi di Palermo, (Italy), replacing R12 in home refrigerators with propane and butane. Tests showed that with simple drop-in operation, it's possible to use old home refrigerators and improve their efficiency. Moreover, an appropriate amount of natural working fluid makes it possible to save primary energy, thus reducing greenhouse effects.
