Summary
Propylene has been recently considered a possible substitute for R22 or R502, as well as propane (R290) or its mixture with isobutane (R600A). The authors analyse the thermodynamic properties of propylene in comparison with those of R22, R502 and their other possible substitutes. They study the chemical compatibility of propylene with materials present in compressors. The question of operation safety with hydrocarbons is also considered.
