Propane and butane as possible alternatives to R12, R22 and R502: Some experimental results in the power range of commercial refrigeration and their discussion.

Author(s) : OELLRICH L. R.

Summary

Comparative experiments were carried out with a compression cycle for R12, R22, R502, propane (R290) and a mixture of propane-n-butane (R290-R600) in the power range of commercial refrigeration. Condensing temperatures were varied between 30 and 40 deg C, and evaporation temperatures, between -35 and -10 deg C. The results show that both the pure propane and the mixture are potential alternative refrigerant candidates as far as the behaviour of the hydrocarbons in the cycle are concerned.
