Purser fleet fits ice-dosing system.

Type of article: Article

Summary

Details are given of an ice dosing system which effectively transports lump free ice of approximately 12 mm thickness and mixes it directly with fish as it is transferred from the net to the vessel's storage tanks. Prior to use, the ice is stored in a 25% mixture of sea water which is aerated from time to time. A 50% ice-sea water mixture is transferred by dosing screw attached to the side of the vessel's existing fish/water separator, the cold water returning to the storage tank. It is possible to refrigerate small fish effectively, and pre-rigor cooling of all fish is accelerated thereby improving quality. Up to 16 purse seiners have been fitted with this system. G.R.S.
