Summary

A trial was carried out to study the storability of fruits of two apple cultivars recently introduced into Italy, Fuji and Braeburn. Fruits were harvested weekly 4 times then stored in air for 4 months or in controlled atmosphere for 6 months. At harvest, after storage and after shelf-life (one week at room temperature), the following qualitative analyses were performed: firmness, specific weight, soluble solids, titratable acidity, background skin colour, percentage blush as assessed visually and, only at harvest, percentage starch hydrolysis evaluated by iodine test.
