Quasiazeotrope blend of propane/R134a, an alternative to R22.

Author(s) : MALEK A., GOTH Y.

Summary

The study aims at reducing the flammability of propane, considered as an acceptable alternative to R22, while preserving its main thermodynamic properties. Research was directed towards a R290-HFC-134a mixture, considering the good properties of each of these two fluids, and the non-flammability of HFC-134a. The research highlighted the presence of a point of azeotropy for a blend composed of 45%/55%/R290/HFC-134a. Calorimetric results show thermodynamic performances at least equivalent to HCFC-22. This blend may be considered as a drop-in with a minor modification of the installation, mainly capillary length reduction by about 20%.
