Summary

TO DISCOVER ALTERNATIVE REFRIGERANTS WHICH HAVE THE DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS BUT ARE NOT OZONE DEPLETING, THE AUTHORS TRIED AN APPROACH SIMILAR TO THAT OF MIDGLEY AND HENNE, THE ORIGINATORS OF THE CFC GROUP. FORA COMPLETELY DIFFERENT APPROACH THEY SEARCHED A PROPRIETARY DATABASE OF 860 FLUIDS USING FREEZING TEMPERATURE, CRITICAL TEMPERATURE, VAPOUR PRESSURE AND VOLUMETRIC CAPACITY AS INIILN. THE OUTCOME WAS SIMILAR. ONLY CFCS PRODUCE REALISTI LN. FURTHER REFINING ACCORDING TO TOXICITY, FLAMMABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY SUGGEST THAT MORE RESEARCH INTO CERTAIN AREAS OF CFC COMPOUNDS MAY YIELD PROFITABLE RESULTS. D.W.H.
