R123 is still only being used on a small scale.

Summary
R123 still contains chlorine, which means that, in time, its use will be prohibited. Toxicity tests have shown that exposure to R123 may endanger health when it is used above a certain level of concentration. This does not alter the fact, however, that it can be a good transitional refrigerant, provided the right precautions are taken.
