Summary

A REPORT IS GIVEN OF A SYMPOSIUM HELD IN WASHINGTON, DC, TO EVALUATE THE POSSIBILITY OF USING R32 AND R152A MIXTURES IN REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING. R32, WITH A NORMAL BOILING POINT OF 221.3 K (-51.7 DEG C), WAS, IN GENERAL, REGARDED AS A POSSIBLE SUBSTITUTE FOR R22. THE HIGHEST COP AMONG MIXTURES WAS SAID TO BE THAT OF R32-R152A. DRAWBACKS OF R32: IT IS FLAMMABLE ; ITS CONDENSATION PRESSURE IS HIGHER THAN R22'S ; AND IT IS NOT MISCIBLE WITH MINERAL OILS. ON THE OTHER HAND, ITS OZONE DEPLETION POTENTIAL IS ALMOST ZERO, ITS GLOBAL WARMING POTENTIAL IS 0.13 (R11: 1), AND ITS MOLECULES' LIFESPAN IS 6.1 YEARS. M. C.
