Recent advances in cryopreservation facilitate transgenic mouse technology.

Summary

New advances have allowed cryopreserved fertilized eggs to be used as recipients for foreign DNA: the efficiency of transgenic production from frozen-thawed eggs was close to that from those not frozen. Importantly, mouse sperm has recently also been cryopreserved. Therefore, transgenes can be stored in paternal germ cells which require less manipulation compared to storage in embryos.
