Summary
The purpose of this study was to reduce the energy consumption of an industrial air-conditioning system. The energy conservation of an air-conditioning system that supplies low dew point air was investigated and validated experimentally. The consumption of energy was reduced by introducing a heat pump for both heating and cooling of the air at the same time. The authors studied working fluid that is suitable for the heat pump and found that R-744 (CO2) has higher heating performance than R-410A and R-22. A simulation of the system with a CO2 heat pump was found to reduce energy consumption by 8.2% at peak conditions and 13.2% at intermediate conditions. The authors also developed a pilot plant that combines dehumidifier and heat pump cycle, and the experimental results indicated a 6.5% energy reduction at peak conditions and a 10.2% reduction at intermediate conditions.
