Refrigerating plants for use on fishing boats.

Summary
Ammonia was the leading refrigerant for cooling applications on Japanese fishing boats up to 1970, but it was no longer used after 1973, due to its poor performance, lack of the precise thermal control required for coastal fishing, technical problems in automatization of refrigerant flux control, etc. Recently, as electronic expansion valves and various ammonia control devices have been developed, such disadvantages of ammonia have been eliminated, unless a super-low temperature (lower than -50 deg C) is required.
