TO MEET THE FOODSTUFF REQUIREMENTS OF THE WORLD'S POPULATION, WHICH INCREASES VERY RAPIDLY AND IS IRREGULARLY DISTRIBUTED IN SPACE, COLLABORATION AT INTERNATIONAL LEVEL IS INDISPENSABL THE SETTING UP OF A COLD CHAIN WILL ENABLE THE SPECIALISATION AND CONCENTRATION OF PRODUCTION, RESULT IN A BETTER DISTRIBUTION OF WORK AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMERCIAL INTERCHANGES. ABOUT 30 MILLION TONS/YEAR OF PERISHABLE FOODSTUFFS NECESSITATING REFRIGERATION ARE DISTRIBUTED. WITHOUT REFRIGERATION, THESE EXPORTS AND IMPORTS, AS WELL AS THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF MANY COUNTRIES WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE. THE CREATION AND MAINTENANCE OF FOOD STOCKS IN COLD STORES CONSTITUTE A VERY IMPORTANT FACTOR IN SAFEGUARDING WORLD FOODSTUFFS, IN ENSURING MARKET STABILITY AND IN LIMITING FLUCTUATIONS IN AGRICULTURAL FOOD PRICES. THE PRODUCTION OF FROZEN FOODSTUFFS IS CONSIDERED AS THE MOST IMPORTANT OF INNOVATIONS OF THE 20TH CENTURY. IT IS ALMOST 30 MILLION TONS ER THE SECOND WORLD WAR, THE FISHING INDUSTRY INCREASED: 19 MILLION TONS IN 1948 AND 76.5 MILLION TONS IN 1983.
