Refrigeration production; problems and technological alternatives.

Production du froid ; problèmes et alternatives technologiques.

Author(s) : DUMINIL M.

Summary

This paper gives a brief didactic presentation of all refrigeration production processes. It provides the basic principles of performance and explains why mechanicial compression of fluids (known as refrigerants) with change of phase (gas/liquid) is the most widely used process in refrigeration production. Finally, the most commonly used refrigerants (CFCs, HCFCs and HFCs) and natural fluids (air, water, CO2, hydrocarbons) are reviewed and their main characteristics described.
