Summary

LITERATURE DEALING WITH RECONSTRUCTING OF THE MANDIBLE AFTER REMOVAL OF TUMOUR INVOLVED BONE IS REVIEWED. CANCER CELLS ARE KILLED AT A FASTER RATE AND TO A LARGER EXTENT THAN NORMAL CELLS OF THE SAME LINEAGE WHEN FROZEN. FROZEN BONE DEMONSTRATES DIMINISHED BUT PERSISTENT AUTOGENICITY. TWO CASE REPORTS ARE GIVEN OF PATIENTS WHO HAD CARCINOMA OF THE MANDIBLE. THE AFFECTED BONE, IN EACH CASE, WAS REMOVED AND GIVEN TWO FREEZE THAW CYCLES OF TEN MINUTES EACH AND REPLACED IN THE MANDIBLE. THE GRAFTS WERE ACCEPTED. AUTOLOGOUS BONE APPARENTLY PROVIDES AN IDEAL ANATOMIC GRAFT. C.R.F.
