Summary
The authors present the ongoing research and development activities on natural working fluids in Japan. The current application of natural working fluids is quite limited in Japan, and due to the high population density Japan is even more restrictive regarding the use of ammonia and hydrocarbons than the USA. However, a number of R&D projects are involving water, air and carbon dioxide (CO2), since they are regarded as 100% safe working fluids.
