Research on the suitability of modified atmosphere packaging for shelf-life and quality improvement of apricot fruit.

Summary

Fruits were packed in punnets (650 grammes fruit) then placed in plastic film bags having permeabilities ranging from 40, 000 to 120, 000 milliliters gas /(24h.m2.atm) and stored at temperatures ranging from 5 to 20 deg C. The composition of the internal atmosphere depended on the film's permeability. A higher permeability allowed the steady state to be reached more rapidly. Temperature also affected the composition. The steady state was also reached more quickly for a given permeability at a higher temperature.
