Results and experiences with the first commercial pilot plant CO2 heat pump water heater.

Author(s) : ZAKERI G. R., NEKSÅ P., REKSTAD H., et al.

Summary

The first commercial pilot plant heat pump water heat with CO2 as working fluid has been built and installed in Norway by Frostmann a.s. in co-operation with SINTEF Energy Research, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. In the evaporator (cascade heat exchanger), NH3 condenses (either partial or full condensation) giving up heat to evaporating CO2. The heat pump system produces hot water with temperature of 70-80 °C. The operating system is very stable, with very little variation in heat source temperature. A heating-COP of 5.77 is achieved when tap water is heated from 6.7 to 66 °C.
