Author(s) : CHAPON J. F.

Type of article: Periodical article

Summary

SCALD SERIOUSLY AFFECTED GOLDEN DELICIOUS, STARKING DELICIOUS AND GRANNY SMITH APPLES IN SOME FRENCH AREAS IN 1981. THE AUTHOR SURVEYS THE MAIN FACTORS, AT THE ORCHARD OR IN STORAGE, THAT MAY INCREASE OR DECREASE SENSITIVENESS TO THE DISORDER: CLIMATIC CONDITIONS (TEMPERATURE, PLUVIOMETRY), ORCHARD CONDITIONS (VARIETIES, TREE AGE, FERTILISERS, SHAPE OF TREES AND LOCATION OF FRUIT ON THE TREE), STORAGE CONDITIONS (TEMPERATURE, TIME, ATMOSPHERE COMPOSITION). THE CONTROL MEANS RESULTS FROM THE EXAMINATION OF THESE FACTORS ; THEY RELATE TO THE MANAGEMENT OF THE ORCHARD AND STORAGE ; OTHERS ARE MORE SPECIFIC: THERMAL AND CHEMICAL TREATMENTS. TWO MATERIALS (ETHOXYQUINE AND DIPHENYLAMINE) ARE EFFECTIVE AGAINST APPLE SCALD. IN FRANCE, ONLY THE USE OF ETHOXYQUINE IS AUTHORISED ; THE TREATMENT BY DIPHENYLAMINE CAN BE DONE ONLY FOR EXPORTED FRUIT, WHEN THE REGULATIONS OF THE CONSIGNEE COUNTRY ALLOW IT. G.G.
