Sealed tube comparisons of the compatibility of desiccants with refrigerants and lubricants.
Author(s) : FIELD J. E.
Summary
Looking at the results from an overall perspective reveals the following trends in the performance of the desiccants, refrigerants and lubricants when aged together. R32 and R22 decomposed at roughly the same level when aged in the presence of desiccants. In the series of tests the POE lubricant decomposed significantly more than did the mineral oil. The least amount of reaction occurred when the desiccants were aged in R12 and mineral oil, and the highest levels of reaction occurred with R32 and POE lubricant. 3A molecular sieve performed slightly better than 4A, except in the presence of R32. When considering the results of the investigation, it is important to note that the test temperature was very high relative to typical desiccant applications.
