SOLAR HEAT PUMP ENHANCED BY THIN FILM HEAT TRANSFER.

Summary

A 1.5 KILOWATT VAPOUR COMPRESSION SOLAR-SOURCE HEAT PUMP PROTOTYPE IS BEING DEVELOPED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIN FILM HEAT TRANSFER IN BOTH THE SOLAR EVAPORATOR AND THE AIR COOLED CONDENSER. THIN LIQUID FILMS OF R12 INSIDE THE TUBULAR SOLAR ABSORBER-EVAPORATOR HAVE RESULTED IN REFRIGERANT EVAPORATING HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS AS HIGH AS 350 WATT/M2 K. AS A RESULT, SMALL TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE AND EVAPORATION TEMPERATURES OF ABOUT 291 K (18 DEG C) WERE OBTAINED. IN COMBINATION WITH THIS SYSTEM AND TUBULAR CONDENSER UTILIZING VERTICAL FALLING CONDENSATE FILMS, A CONDENSATE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT OF 1,400 WATT/M2 K AND COPS AS HIGH AS 6.5 HAVE BEEN RECORDED.
