Solubility and viscosity of new oil/ammonia systems.

Author(s) : BURKE M., KRUSE H.

Summary

Within the framework of a research project, polyalkylene glycols (PG) were found to be lubricants which are miscible with ammonia even at low temperatures. Miscibility of PG-type oils with ammonia depends on their composition of ethylene oxide (EO) and propylene oxide (PO). Concerning miscibility, which was investigated in a temperature range from -80 up to 90 deg C, an oil with equal proportions of EO and PO seems to be most suitable for an application in an ammonia system. For this mixture, the liquid viscosity of six concentrations in a temperature range from -40 up to 80 deg C was measured using a falling ball viscometer.
