Solubility measurements for solid impurities in liquid oxygen at temperatures down to 90 K.

Summary

The solubilities of nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide in liquid oxygen at temperatures between 90 and 110 K were measured using a static-analytic method. An original apparatus was set up in the authors' laboratory for measuring solid solubilities in liquids. Solubility measurements were carried out for two binary systems (CO2-O2 and N2O-O2) at temperatures ranging between 90 and 110 K. A satisfactory agreement is found between the proposed correlation and recent data from other authors. A new device was proposed to extend the field of application to co-solubility measurements: it is based on the atomisation of the solute mixture above the liquid solvent. Solid-liquid equilibrium data for the system CO2-N2O-O2 were determined at 92.02 K.
