Summary

PROVIDED THAT CERTAIN CONDITIONS ARE MET, PERISHABLE FOOD PRODUCTS CAN BE TRANSPORTED SAFELY OVER LONG DISTANCES WITHOUT ACTIVE REFRIGERATION. EMPIRICAL MEASUREMENTS ARE USED TO VERIFY THE DATA DERIVED FROM A THERMODYNAMIC MODEL FOR ESTIMATING THE SURFACE TEMPERATURESOF VEHICLE LOADS. THE RESULTS DEMON-STRATE THAT, IN ADDITION TO SAVINGS ON THE ACQUISITION AND OPERATING COSTS OF REFRIGERATING MACHINES ENVIRONMENTAL AND NOISE-ABATEMENT BENEFITS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.
