Summary
A new liquid chiller idea has been developed and tested. This chiller unit makes use of semi-welded plate heat exchanger, flooded evaporation and polyalfaolifine oil. An injector is used to flood the evaporator and to provide a good circulation. Almost no liquid ammonia exists in any part of the unit, and the ammonia charge is consequently reduced to the lowest possible quantity. One kilowatt capacity is performed with only 28 grams of ammonia. The unit has been tested and compared with a traditional unit with high-pressure float, and the new unit was found to have the same efficiency at both varying main pressures and at partial load.
