Super-low ammonia charge brine chillers for reefers: safety by design.
Author(s) : ALEXANDERSSON H., ALBERT L., AXELSSON R., OLESZKO J.
Summary
The paper discusses the design criteria and practical execution of a modern, safe ammonia installation for reefers. Safety, reliability and freedom from maintenance are the prime design criteria for this type of plant. All these objectives are best accomplished with compact, prefabricated, factory-assembled and fully tested brine chiller units. The distinguishing features of these units are super-low ammonia charge and simple design. The key component of the ammonia units is the welded plate heat exchanger used as a refrigerant evaporator and condenser, permitting the required minima refrigerant charge with additional advantages in efficiency and performance.
