Susceptibility of "Ortanique" citrus fruit harvested in Valencia to chilling injury during cold storage.

Summary

Harvested "Ortanique" fruits in Valencia were waxed with a water based polyethylene wax and stored at 1, 5 or 9 °C during different periods of up to 13 weeks, and then at 20 °C for 7 days to simulate shelf life conditions. Waxed fruits stored at 5 and 1 °C presented a good commercial quality even after 13 weeks, but the uncoated fruit at 1 °C showed chilling injury symptoms.
