Summary
Storage of fruit in caves is traditional in northwest China. The paper describes how mechanical refrigeration was added to an uninsulated cave and was used during the autumn and spring to reduce the average cave temperature. For a modest power consumption the average temperature was reduced by about 5°C and fruit quality was improved.
