The basic thermodynamic processes used in air cycle refrigeration.

Author(s) : FITT P. W.

Summary

Air cycle refrigeration is built up by simple explanation and illustration using the highly superheated end of an air pressure-enthalpy diagram. Each part of the cycle leads by easy logic to the next until an entire cycle is created using a turbine expander and a bootstrap compressor together with heat exchange between air entering the expander and air leaving the heat sink. The regeneration in the bootstrap system means that very low temperatures can be reached without much increase in power. The same applies to raising the high temperature heat recovery end of the cycle. D.W.H.
