Summary

IN ORDER TO OBTAIN OPTIMUM PERFORMANCES FOR THE COOLING OF CUT FLOWERS THREE PHYSICAL FACTORS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED: TEMPERATURE, RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND AIR CIRCULATION IN COLD ROOMS (A TABLE GIVES THE MAXIMUM STORAGE LIFE OF THE MAIN SPECIES OF CUT FLOWERS DEPENDING ON TEMPERATURE). DRY STORAGE HAS GENERALLY MORE ADVANTAGES THAN STORAGE WITH WATER SUPPLY, REQUIRING THE USE OF PRODUCTS FOR THE TREATMENT OF WATER. POSSIBLE COLD STORAGE LIFE IS IMPROVED ON ONE HAND BY THE USE, ON CONDITIONING, OF NUTRIENT SOLUTIONS FAVOURING OPENING AND INCREASING SUBSEQUENT LIFE, ON THE OTHER HAND, BY THE USE OF ANTICIPATIVE PICKING (YOUNG BUDS).
