The optimum performance of a two-stage cycle with an open intercooler.

Summary

The main objective of the paper is the thermodynamic analysis of an actual two-stage cycle with an open intercooler. The influence of compression characteristics of individual refrigerants on the cycle performance was investigated. The paper also discusses the influence of an optimum intermediate pressure on minimizing the exergy input to the system and maximizing its net rational efficiency. The optimum performance was analyzed for a number of refrigerants not previously used in this application, such as R125, R290, R507, and R404A. The refrigerants R22 and R717 were also taken into consideration for comparison with these new refrigerants.
