Exergy analysis of two stage cycle with an open intercooler for alternate refrigerants.

Summary
A computer analysis was carried out for potential single fluid refrigerant and azeotropic mixture replacements for R502 working in a two stage cycle with an open intercooler. Computer simulation was performed for the following refrigerants: R22, R32, R125, R134a, R143a, R717, AZ20 (R32/R125), AZ50 (R143a/R125) and R502. Due to accelerated phase-out of R22, only R717, R134a, AZ20 or AZ50 could be presently regarded as a replacement of R502 depending on the application, but there is still no clear cut replacement for R502 in this application.
