The railroad air-conditioning system behaviour in transitional thermal regimes.

Author(s) : TODOROVIC B., TODOROVIC M.

Summary

Air-conditioning systems installed in various vehicles are sized on the basis of the outside design conditions, which include low winter and high summer temperatures. Their heating and cooling capacities have to be tested later, under conditions as similar as possible to the designed ones. But, the quality of a system and its adaptation to the vehicle in which it is installed can be proven only in transitional regimes, obtained when the thermal conditions are changing. The example of railroad car testing by simulating various thermal conditions in which an air-conditioning system is operating, shows what such tests can demonstrate and establish, and confirm whether the system fulfils its task or not.
