The re-discovery of ammonia as a refrigerant on new refrigerated cargo vessels.
Ammoniak (her)ontdekt voor scheepskoelinstallaties?
Author(s) : BERENDS E.
Type of article: Article
Summary
Cooling on board cargo vessels started with the use of natural ice and was followed by mechanical cooling with ammonia and CO2 as refrigerants. After the Second World War, most countries abandoned them and began using synthetic refrigerants. Because of the growing opposition to certain synthetic refrigerants, the re-discovery of ammonia and CO2 is anticipated.
