The substitute R123 in low-pressure turbocompressor installations.

Author(s) : KOHN D.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The author recounts experience with retrofitting R11 machines to the low-pressure refrigerant R123. Among the advantages of R123: the capacity range of turbo machines that can be run on R123 is very large -500 to 3000 kilowatts; R123 can be mixed with R11; and currently used oils can continue to be used. Among the disadvantages: a lower refrigerating capacity. The author also describes the PAFT programme (tests on the toxicity of substitute refrigerants). Tables are given on the environmental impact and COP of different refrigerants.
