Summary

The article presents the advantages of the systems and the ice chilling of large catches in tanks. Wet ice frozen as small particles from sea water is also called "soft" or "flo" ice. It can be stored without lumping and be transported by pumping. Some Scandinavian purse seiners have installed such machines on board. In addition to producting "slush" ice, they can refrigerate sea water by turning a handle, i.e. function as a refrigerated sea water unit to maintain the water and fish, cold during long journeys.
