Summary
This paper studies the theoretical and practical problems involved in the use of propane as a substitute for R22. In order to evaluate the performance of propane the authors analyzed the thermodynamic performance and theoretical refrigerating cycle of propane and R22. Results show that propane is a good alternative for R22. Finally, the flammability and the COP were tested using a series of tests employing R290/R22 mixtures under various composition conditions. The results show that the flammability of propane may partly be reduced by mixing with R22.
