Summary

Presents the theoretical basis and several applications of the theory of exergetic cost, a major approach to the field of thermoeconomics. Formulates the fundamentals and criteria that permit the description of the cost formation process and the assessment of the efficiency in energy systems. Presents the following applications of the methodology in the analysis of energy systems: 1) assessment of alternatives for energy savings; 2) cost allocation; 3) operation optimization; 4) local optimization of subsystems; 5) energy audits and assessment of fuel impact of malfunctions.
